Lieutenant Frederick Young of the East India Company founded Mussoorie when he went there for the sole purpose of bagging some game. It is said that Mussoorie gets its name from the Mussoorie or ‘Mansoor’ plant which is known to grow in abundance here. Mussoorie holds the record for being the place where the first beer brewery was built in India in the year 1850. By the year 1892, there were about 22 beer breweries that came up in India following in the footsteps of Mussoorie. Also, the first Tibetan school came up in Mussoorie in 1960.
